Msgr. Schaedel’s letter for the bulletin of August 13, 2000
Dear Parishioners,
This weekend I gladly "yield" my letter space to Archbishop Buechlein. He has written an important letter to all Catholics in the Archdiocese. We will also read it from the pulpit this weekend.
Don’t forget the holyday Tuesday, the Feast of the Assumption. God bless you all! Have a good week! Here is the archbishop’s letter. I encourage you to read it and to make plans accordingly.
My dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
I am writing to all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis to personally invite you to participate in our upcoming major archdiocesan jubilee event: "Celebration in the Spirit of Hope: The Great Jubilee."
This will take place at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis on September 16, 2000, at 2:30 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). The dome was the largest facility available in our archdiocese, and we wanted to have room for everyone who wants to attend. During our gathering, we will celebrate the Eucharist, the sacrament of confirmation will be administered to more than 2,500 persons, a nuptial blessing will be given to all married couples present, and we will all pray to the Holy Spirit to give us all the grace to carry out the evangelizing mission of the Church.
The Great Jubilee Year, which marks the 2,000th anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ is a perfect time for us to gather as the Church in central and southern Indiana and to experience ourselves in communion with each other. It is also a graced time, a time for us to witness to the larger community how the Good News of Jesus Christ has changed each of our lives and made us a people filled with hope.
I invite you to join me, some 20 bishops from across the country and priests from our archdiocese who will be assisting in celebrating confirmation, and the religious and laity of our local Church as we gather as one family to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. Together, let us celebrate and thank God for the extraordinary blessings our archdiocesan family has received in recent years.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Rev. Daniel M. Buechlein, O.S.B.
Archbishop of Indianapolis
